Explore North Luangwa National Park, a remote and wild corner of Zambia, famous for its walking safaris and pristine wilderness.
A True Wilderness Experience
North Luangwa National Park is one of Africa's last great wilderness areas. Located in the northern part of Zambia's Luangwa Valley, the park is remote, wild, and relatively untouched by mass tourism. This exclusivity makes it a perfect destination for seasoned safari-goers seeking an authentic and immersive bush experience. For more on Zambia's wild places, see our destinations page.
The Home of Walking Safaris
North Luangwa is renowned for its exceptional walking safaris. With very few roads in the park, the primary way to explore is on foot, led by expert guides. This allows for a much more intimate and thrilling encounter with the bush, where all your senses are engaged. You'll learn to track animals, identify plants, and appreciate the smaller details of the ecosystem. Our safari advisors can help you book a walking safari adventure.
Wildlife and Conservation
The park is home to a rich diversity of wildlife, including large herds of buffalo, elephants, and a healthy population of lions. It is also one of the best places in Zambia to see the endemic Cookson's wildebeest. Thanks to successful conservation efforts, North Luangwa is also a sanctuary for the critically endangered black rhino, which were reintroduced to the park after being poached to local extinction. For more on conservation, visit our knowledge center.
Planning Your Trip
The safari season in North Luangwa is short, running from June to October. Access to the park is limited, and there are only a handful of small, rustic bush camps. This ensures an exclusive and intimate safari experience. A trip to North Luangwa is a journey back in time, to a wilder, more remote Africa.
