About Safari Intelligence

Built by Someone Who Knows Africa

Safari Intelligence was founded by Philips Okot, who was born and raised in Uganda and spent years working as a safari driver and guide across East Africa. Through that experience, Philips developed a deep understanding of what makes a great safari — and what can go wrong when travelers don't have the right information.

After moving to the United States, Philips saw that many travelers struggle to plan safaris because the industry can be confusing. There are hundreds of operators, unclear pricing structures, varying safety standards, and an overwhelming number of destinations to choose from. Most travelers rely on online reviews or marketing materials that don't tell the full story.

Safari Intelligence was created to solve this problem. We provide independent, experience-based safari knowledge that helps travelers make informed decisions. Our destination guides, operator vetting process, and advisory services are all built on real, firsthand experience — not marketing partnerships or commission-driven recommendations.

Our mission is simple: help travelers experience Africa the right way — safely, authentically, and with confidence.

Our Values

From Safari Guide to Safari Authority

The knowledge behind Safari Intelligence comes from years spent on the ground — driving the roads, tracking the wildlife, and learning what truly matters in the African safari experience.

Uganda — Where It All Began

Born and Raised in Uganda

Philips Okot grew up in Uganda, surrounded by some of the most extraordinary wildlife and landscapes on Earth. From an early age, he developed a deep connection to the natural world — the rhythms of the bush, the behavior of wildlife, and the vast, untouched beauty of East Africa.

That connection led him to become a professional safari driver and guide, a career that would take him across Uganda's national parks and game reserves — from the mist-covered mountains of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to the sweeping savannas of Queen Elizabeth National Park, from the remote wilderness of Kidepo Valley to the shores of the Nile in Murchison Falls.

Over years of guiding travelers through these landscapes, Philips didn't just learn the roads — he learned the industry. He saw which operators delivered exceptional experiences and which cut corners. He understood what made travelers feel safe and what left them vulnerable. He witnessed the gap between what was marketed and what was actually delivered.

Years Behind the Wheel

As a safari guide, Philips spent years behind the wheel of a Land Cruiser — navigating dusty tracks at dawn, tracking leopards through dense bush, and sharing the magic of Africa with travelers from around the world. Every game drive deepened his understanding of wildlife behavior, seasonal patterns, and the nuances that separate an ordinary safari from an extraordinary one.

He learned to read the landscape — to know where the lions would rest in the afternoon heat, when the wildebeest migration would cross the river, and which trails offered the best chances of encountering rare species. This wasn't knowledge from textbooks. It was earned through thousands of hours in the field, across every season, in every condition.

But beyond the wildlife, Philips also learned something equally important: how the safari industry works from the inside. He saw how operators priced their trips, how lodges maintained quality, which safety protocols mattered, and where travelers were most likely to be misled.

From Africa to America — A New Perspective

When Philips moved to the United States, he brought his deep knowledge of African safaris with him — but he also gained a new perspective. He began to see the safari industry through the eyes of Western travelers: the confusion, the overwhelming number of options, the difficulty of knowing who to trust, and the fear of making expensive mistakes.

Friends, colleagues, and acquaintances constantly asked him for safari advice. "Where should we go?" "How much should we budget?" "Is this operator legitimate?" "Is it safe to travel there?" The same questions came up again and again — and Philips realized that the information travelers needed simply wasn't available in one place.

Most safari websites were run by operators trying to sell their own trips. Reviews were unreliable. Pricing was opaque. And the travelers who needed guidance the most — first-timers planning the trip of a lifetime — had no independent, trustworthy source to turn to.

That realization became the foundation of Safari Intelligence.
