Overpacking is the most common mistake. Most lodges offer laundry service. Bright colors scare wildlife. Hard suitcases do not fit in safari vehicles or bush planes. Forgetting binoculars is the biggest regret.
If you are taking any bush flights (common in Botswana, Tanzania, Kenya), you will have a strict 15-20kg luggage limit in a soft-sided bag. Pack light and leave the hard suitcase at your Nairobi/Maun hotel.
