The best time for a Tanzania safari is June–October (dry season) for optimal wildlife viewing. For the Great Migration calving season, visit January–March in the southern Serengeti. The Mara River crossings happen July–September in the northern Serengeti.
Tanzania's premier parks are Serengeti National Park (Great Migration and vast wildlife), Ngorongoro Crater (dense Big Five concentration), Tarangire National Park (massive elephant herds and baobab trees), Lake Manyara (tree-climbing lions), and Selous/Nyerere (remote wilderness).
A mid-range Tanzania safari costs $300–$600 per person per day. Budget camping safaris start at $150–$200 per day. Luxury options range from $800–$2,000+ per day. Park fees alone are $60–$82 per day for major parks. The northern circuit (Serengeti, Ngorongoro) is more expensive than the southern circuit.
